JP Nadda, National President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), met with Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Chairman of the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre), on Sunday to explore measures to enhance and deepen ties between India and Nepal, news agency ANI reported.
Pushpa Kamal Dahal "Prachanda" was joined by Ganga Dahal, his daughter, and his son-in-law.
The two leaders also discussed the age-old cultural and people-to-people bonds, as well as methods to improve party-to-party collaboration.
Taking to Twitter, Nadda said, “It was an honour to welcome Shri Pushpa K Dahal “Prachanda”, Former PM of Nepal and to interact with him today at the BJP HQ in New Delhi as part of ‘Know the BJP’ initiative."
“We had fruitful discussions over strengthening and deepening ties between India and Nepal, especially our age-old cultural & people to people bond. We also discussed ways to further party-to-party cooperation,” he added.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and BJP foreign media incharge Vijay Chauthaiwale were also present at the meeting.
Notably, Pushpa Kamal Dahal "Prachanda" is in India at the request of BJP President JP Nadda.
Various approaches to improve party-to-party cooperation were explored during the discussion between the two leaders. JP Nadda, President of the BJP, has started a one-of-a-kind campaign called "Know BJP" to reach out to a wider audience.
India would remain Nepal's faithful partner, Jaishankar said on Friday as he welcomed Dahal.
“Pleased to welcome @cmprachanda to India on his visit at the invitation of BJP President @JPNadda ji. A productive discussion on strengthening our neighbourly relationship with a focus on economic cooperation,” Jaishankar tweeted.
“Reflecting our Neighbourhood First policy, India will remain a steadfast partner of Nepal in its quest for progress and prosperity,” he had said in another tweet.
Notably, the former Nepali Prime Minister is in India for three days. Vijay Chauthaiwale, head of the BJP's international relations department, called the meeting "important." "This gathering is significant and will be part of the 'Know BJP' campaign." This is the first time the BJP has extended an invitation to the Nepali Communist Party."
Prachanda will also meet with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, according to reports. On April 6, 2022, the party's 42nd Foundation Day, the "Know BJP" campaign was launched. The second phase took place on May 16, 2022, while the third meeting took place on June 4, 2022.
The "Know BJP" campaign is a BJP endeavour to communicate the party's vision, goal, and work culture to people all around the world. So far, Nadda has met with Nepal Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, Singapore's Minister for Foreign Relations Vivian Balakrishnan, and envoys from 47 nations as part of this initiative.
So far, Nadda has met with diplomats/heads of missions from 47 countries, including the European Union.
Earlier this month, Nadda met with Nguyen Van Nen of the Communist Party of Vietnam at the BJP headquarters in the national capital.
Earlier, in the fourth phase of the "Know BJP" campaign, Nadda met with "Heads of Mission" from 13 nations at the party's central headquarters.
Addressing the visiting diplomats, Nadda said, “It is our belief that there should be better communication between the political system and political parties of different countries so that we can understand the vision of each other.”
"The BJP firmly believes in a healthy democracy and shared cultural ties," he said.
