HMPV Virus Cases India Live: Out of the total 11 cases reported so far, two were reported in Bengaluru, one in Gujarat, two in Chennai, three in Kolkata, two in Nagpur, and one in Mumbai.
HMPV Virus Cases in India Live Updates: A six-month-old baby has tested positive for HMPV at Hiranandani Hospital in Mumbai’s Powai, increasing the total number of cases of the respiratory illness to 11. Out of the total cases reported so far, two were reported in Bengaluru, one in Gujarat, two in Chennai, three in Kolkata, and now three in Maharashtra.
Former AIIMS Director Dr Randeep Guleria said “HMPV is not novel, it’s an old virus. It has been there for some time. Viruses usually cause mild illness, but in extremes of age, in infants and young children and the elderly or those with comorbidities, it can cause pneumonia, in young and old, which can lead to breathing issues, as well as hospitalisation.” “The virus itself is usually self-limiting, and you just need symptomatic treatment. Take medicine for fever, keep hydration, and have good nutrition,” he added, while asking people to avoid going to crowded places to curb the infection from spreading.
Union Health Minister JP Nadda said, "Health experts have clarified that #HMPV is not a new virus. There is no reason to worry. We are closely monitoring the situation." Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak addressed concerns over the HMPV virus. Pathak assured the public that the government is moving forward with complete alertness. The Patna administration has appealed to residents to remain calm and follow the guidelines issued by the Central and Bihar governments in response to HMPV cases reported in parts of the country.
According to health experts, even though there is no vaccine for HMPV, a regular flu shot or three doses of Covid vaccine makes one immune against it.
